Why it's done
A computed tomography (CT) scan is a type of imaging test. It uses X-rays and a computer to make detailed pictures of the inside of your chest. These images are better than regular X-rays. They can give more details about injuries or diseases of the chest organs. Computed tomography (CT) of the chest uses special x-ray equipment to examine abnormalities found in other imaging tests and to help diagnose the cause of unexplained cough, shortness of breath, chest pain, fever and other chest symptoms. CT scanning is fast, painless, noninvasive and accurate. A CT (computed tomography) scan uses X-rays to make detailed pictures of your body and structures inside your body. A CT scan of the chest can give your doctor information about your lungs, your heart, and other structures in your chest. During the test, you will lie .
Different from the usual X-ray, CT scan employs multiple X-ray beams and creates a detailed, 3D-like image of the body parts. CT scan of chest—also CT scan thorax—focuses on lungs and is designed for identification of various lung-related disorders. Because CT scan chest gives elaborated images of lungs, it detects and predicts the presence of lung cancer at early stages.
